Abstract
Abstract: Seven taxa of Hypecoum sect. Hypecoum native to the Mediterranean area were compared with regard to the scent composition. The floral fragrances are mainly composed of benzenoids, which are offen nitrogenous; monoterpenes, one sesquiterpene and aliphatic ketones are also present. The composition of the odour is, to a certain degree, correlated with morphological discontinuities within the group. Generally, the samples from self-compatible plants contained fewer compounds than the samples from self-incompatible plants. Pollination studies of H. imberbe Sm. and H. procumbens L. ssp. procumbens showed that the main floral visitors were beetles and bees.
